NTL BASEBALL: NEB LEADS EARLY, BUT FALLS TO ATHENS (2021-04-28)

ROME — Northeast Bradford had an early lead, but couldn’t hold it, as they fell 10-4 to Athens in NTL baseball action Wednesday.

The Panthers used back to back 2-run innings to lead 4-2 going into the third. However, Athens scored in every inning but the seventh, including a 3-run sixth, to pull away.


Lucas Crown (2-for-3) had a double, with a run scored, and an RBI for NEB, as Clay Wiggins (1-for-4) had a double, with a run scored, and an RBI.


Nick Beers (1-for-3), and Cayden McPherson (1-for-2) also had hits. McPherson, and Dalton Donnelly both scored runs, as Joe Stanton had an RBI.


Collin Allis started, and takes the loss, going three innings to strikeout two with five hits, one walk, and four runs, three of which were earned.


Stanton went the next two innings, striking out two with four hits, and three earned runs, but no walks. Crown pitched the sixth, allowing three walks, two hits, and three earned runs.


Wiggins tossed the seventh, striking out two with one walk, and one hit.


In the bottom of the seventh back to back doubles by crown, and Wiggins scored Crown, while Wiggins would score on an error to put NEB up 2-1.


The Panthers would get two more runs in the second, as McPherson, Donnelly, Jacob Crown, and Lucas Crown drew four straight walks, scoring McPherson. Donnelly then scored on a fielder’s choice to put NEB up 4-2.


They would threaten in the third, and sixth, but never got another run across.


The Panthers host CV on Friday with a 4:30 p.m. start.
