ON TAP TODAY: A BIG BASEBALL DOUBLE-HEADER AMONGST GAMES STILL GOING (2021-04-30)

Northern Tier Sports Report
Rain and Covid-19 have cut back today’s slate, but there are a few good contests left today.

BASEBALL

Wyalusing (5-2) at NP-Mansfield (6-5-1), 3 p.m. (DH): The first meeting was cancelled over at Wyalusing, so the two teams hope to get both games in today. This game will go a long ways towards figuring out the NTL Division-I race, as they’re both in the hut. The Rams have been short handed lately due to Covid-19 quarantining, but the underclassmen have played tough.

Athens (6-6) at Towanda (1-8), 4:30 p.m.: The Wildcats are working their way back into the NTL contention with two straight wins, while the Knights are just trying to pick up a W. Athens won 8-1 the last time they met, in Towanda’s season opener.

SOFTBALL

Athens (10-3) at Towanda (3-6), 4:30 p.m.: The Knights will be looking to avenge an earlier season loss when they face the Wildcats. They’re both coming off losses to NEB recently, though Athens still leads the division.

TRACK & FIELD

Troy (Boys 4-1, Girls 5-0) at Wyalusing (Boys 2-2, Girls 2-2), 4 p.m.: The Rams are coming off two days of remote as they try to get back into the swing of things, as they’ve also had kids quarantined, too. Troy is rolling along, especially the girls, which will look to stay unbeaten on the season.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Galeton (6-4) at Towanda (9-4), 4 p.m.: The regular season for the Knights is starting to come to an end, as they look to finish strong. They’ve beaten the Tigers in two meetings this season, but the second one was just 3-2.
