ON TAP FOR TODAY: SEVEN CONTESTS ON THE DOCKET, THOUGH RAIN THREATENS TO WASH THEM ALL OUT (2021-05-03)

Northern Tier Sports Report
There are seven contests slated for this Monday, but rain threatens to once again derail the day’s schedule.

BASEBALL

CV (6-8) at Canton (11-2), 3 p.m.: The Warriors had the game moved up to try to avoid this evening’s heavy rain, it worked last week against Troy, so they’ll see if they can be 2-for-2 against Mother Nature. Canton won the first meeting between the two teams, and both have a lot to play for - the Warriors are still in the hunt for the Division-II title, and CV is still in the hunt for a playoff berth.

Towanda (1-9) at Wyalusing (6-4), 4:30 p.m.: The Rams will be looking to start off an important week strong with a win. They have three league games this week - Towanda, Troy, and Athens - and will likely need a good showing to stay in the NTL Division-I hunt. The Knights are looking to pick up a win against their rivals.

Williamson (2-8-1) at NEB (2-6), 4:30 p.m.: The Panthers won their first match-up last week, and a victory here would go a long ways towards getting them back in the hunt for a district playoff spot.

SOFTBALL

CV (8-2) at Canton (8-5), 3 p.m.: A big divisional game for both teams, as the Warriors look to avenge a loss from earlier in the season. CV is still in the hunt for the Division-II title - they’re just two games back in the loss column, and face division leading NEB later this week - but they have to be perfect from here on out. A win here by Canton would help their district playoff seeding.

Williamson (1-7) at NEB (8-0), 4:30 p.m.: Two teams going in opposite directions. The Warriors won their season opener back in March, but struggled through April. The Panthers are riding high off a big win over Athens last week.

Towanda (3-7) at Elk Lake, 4:30 p.m.: There’s been a lot of heartbreak for the Knights this year, a lot of close losses to good teams. They’re still in the hunt for a playoff spot, though, and will look to start off a busy week with a non-league win.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Towanda (9-4) at Montoursville (13-2), 4 p.m.: The Knights hit the road to face one of the best programs in the district. This will be a good test going into the singles tournament this weekend.
