NTL BASEBALL: BIG 5TH INNING GIVES WYALUSING WIN OVER TOWANDA (2021-05-03)

Northern Tier Sports Report
WYALUSING — Wyalusing made the most of two hits, as they defeated Towanda 11-1 in five innings during NTL baseball action Monday.

Blake Morningstar went all five innings to get the win for the Rams, striking out 11 with four hits, three walks, and one earned run.

Zach Shaffer (1-for-3) had a double, with two runs scored, as Chase Houser (1-for-4) also had a hit.

Jacob Bruyn, and Nick Kelly had two runs each, as Hunter Moss, Spencer Krewson, Trehnon Hugo, Mitchell Burke, and CJ Carr all crossed home as well. Burke also had an RBI.

Though they only had two hits, the Rams did walk nine times, with Bruyn, Kelly, Krewson, and Hugo each drawing two walks apiece.

Ethan Sparrow (1-for-2) had a double, with a run scored for the Knights, as Chase Parker (1-for-2) had an RBI.

Mason Johnson (1-for-2), and Will Pitcher (1-for-2) also had hits.

Octavious Chacona started, going 4 2/3-innings to strikeout seven with five walks, two hits, and six runs, two of which were earned, to get the loss.

Parker then came on, but didn’t record an out, walking four with five runs, none of which were earned.

It was a close game until the fifth, with Towanda taking a 1-run lead in the top of the third. The Rams countered with two runs in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead.

Then, in the bottom of the fifth, Wyalusing rallied for nine runs as pulled away for the NTL win.

That victory, coupled with NP-Mansfield’s loss to Wellsboro today, moves the Rams past the Tigers in the league standings, taking over the third place slot.

They’re just one game back of Wellsboro in the loss column, who leads Division-I.

Wyalusing (7-4) will travel to Troy (3-7) on Wednesday, while Towanda (1-10) is off until Friday, when they host Wellsboro (7-5).
