Northern Tier Sports Report
It’s win or go home in baseball and softball, while track and field moves from districts in Williamsport, to states in Shippensburg.

BASEBALL

Monday, May 24

Line Mountain (14-6) at Canton (17-3), 4:30 p.m.: The 4th seeded Warriors will host the 5th seeded Eagles in the quarterfinals. Canton finished the season strong, while Line Mountain comes in 1-2 over their last three games. They did have a 9-game win streak in the middle of the season, but were 5-5 outside of that stretch. The winner plays the winner of Sayre/East Juniata on Thursday at Central Columbia, with a 6:30 p.m. start.

Wyalusing (9-9) at South Williamsport (15-5), 4:30 p.m.: The 7th seeded Rams will once again travel to the second seeded Mounties. Wyalusing beat South in their regular season finale just to get into the playoffs, but will likely face South’s ace Landon Lorson this time around. If Wyalusing throws Blake Morningstar again, it would be a meeting of two of the pitchers the district. The winner plays the winner of Southern Columbia/Muncy on Thursday, at Central Columbia, with a 4 p.m. start.

SOFTBALL

Tuesday, May 25

CV (12-8) at Canton (12-8), 4:30 p.m.: Canton’s win over Wyalusing to end the regular season was enough to give them the home game against the Indians, despite getting swept by CV during the regular season. The margin separating the two in the regular season ratings was .000042. The winner will face top seed NEB at Elm Park on Friday, with a 5 p.m. first pitch.

Friday, May 28

Wyalusing (11-8) vs East Juniata (11-8), 3 p.m. at Elm Park: The second seeded Rams come in on a 2-game losing streak, though the 8-game win streak that preceded pushed them from out of the playoffs to the second seed. East Juniata has struggled down the stretch, going 4-5 over their final nine games of the regular season. The winner moves on to the Class AA title game next week.

TRACK & FIELD

Friday, May 28

Class AA, PIAA Championships at Shippensburg, 9 a.m.: Four area athletes will be battling for a state medal this week: Towanda’s Porschia Bennett (high jump), Troy’s Dustin Hagin (110 hurdles), and Wyalusing’s duo of Kashawn Cameron (long jump), and Grady Cobb (high jump). The girls’ high jump, and boys’ long jump are both in the morning session, with the boys’ high jump in the afternoon. The 110 hurdle prelims are at 9:30 a.m., with the final slated for noon, should Hagin make them.
