NTL TRACK & FIELD: PERFORMANCE LISTS OUT FOR PIAA CHAMPIONSHIPS (2021-05-23)

Northern Tier Sports Report
From nearly missing states to the fourth seed, Troy’s Dustin Hagin is set up well to medal at the PIAA Championships on Friday.

He, along with Towanda’s Porschia Bennett, Wyalusing’s Kashawn Cameron, and Grady Cobb, and every other athlete from the NTL are now seeded for states.

Hagin’s time of 15.44 puts him fourth, with District IV getting three of the top seeds. Southern Columbia’s Jake Rose is the runaway number one at 14.10.

These seed times and distances are also just what they did at their district tournaments, it may not reflect their personal best on the season.

In the field Cameron is seeded fifth at 21-feet, 11-inches in the long jump. The top seed is East Allegheny’s Amaryeh Luckey at 22-feet, 4 3/4-inches.

Though, the top 17 jumpers are seeded within one foot of each other, making for a very tight field.

Cobb is seeded 13th at 5-feet, 11-inches, with Littlestown’s Dante Elliott the top seed at 6-feet, 6-inches.

Cobb will likely need to get at least 6-feet, 1-inch, which he just missed at districts, to come close to medaling. The eighth seed is at 6-feet, 2-inches.

On the girls’ side Bennett is the top seed in the high jump at 5-feet, 6-inches, with just one other competitor at that mark. Williamson’s Charlize Slusser is the third seed at 5-feet, 4-inches, with nobody else there.

Suffice to say there could be some very high medals from local athletes come Friday.

Elsewhere in the NTL:

Athens’ Asher Ellis is the seventh seed in the javelin at 174-feet, 8-inches. The top seed is Scranton Prep’s Thomas Dickinson at 192-feet, 7-inches.

Ellis is the 16th seed in the discus at 149-feet, 10-inches. The top seed is Shenango’s Will Patton at 163-feet, 10-inches.

NP-Mansfield’s Noah Shedden is seeded 16th in the 3200 at 10:10.85. He got into the field because the runner-up in District IV dropped out to focus on the 4x800 relay.

Holy Redeemer’s Chris Hine is the top seed at 9:35.93.

Williamson’s Seth Neal is the 17th seed at 2:02.84, with Riverside’s Colby Belczyk the top seed at 1:54.94.

Teammate Owen Cummings is the 20th seed at 9:34.25, and is the only freshman in the field. Waynesburg’s Gabe McConville is the top seed at 4:18.01.

Wellsboro’s 4x100 relay is seeded 19th in 44.69, with Southern Columbia the top seed at 42.51.

Due to the finals being one day, for the 800, the 1600, and the 400 relay there will be no preliminaries, just finals.

The PIAA Championships will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday at Shippensburg University.
