TOWANDA BOYS' TENNIS HAS STRONG RETURN SEASON, IS SET UP WELL FOR 2022 (2021-06-04)

Northern Tier Sports Report
Towanda boys’ tennis were able to get a successful restart to their program this spring.

“This season brought lots of new challenges due to the Covid-19 virus protocols,” said coach Lucy Snyder. “We had two occasions when our practices and matches were stopped due to Covid cases in the high school. The boys, and their parents, did really well adjusting to all the schedule, and practice changes.”

They swept every team in the NTL not named Wellsboro, and did it with just two returners from two years ago.

“We ended the season with a 10-4 record, which put us in second place in the NTL,” said Snyder. “This was a really young team. We had two returners…a senior Jaden Wise, and a junior, Dacion Yrigollen. The remaining six members were first year players.”

However, they learned quickly enough to gut out early season wins before getting swept by Wellsboro. They qualified for team districts, where they lost to Selinsgrove.

Individually, Wise went 8-8 on the season at first singles, and even won a match during the District IV, Singles Tournament.

Second singles player Dacion Yrigollen was 6-8.

“Fortunately, this team worked amazingly well together,” said Snyder. “All of them enjoyed playing, competing, and spending time with each other, which, in turn, made our jobs, as coaches, that much easier.”

Rein Alderfer, Aidan Hennessy, Ryan O’Connor, Luke Tavani, Nathan Spencer, and Ethan Dillman will also be back, along with Yrigollen.

“We are looking forward to having seven returners for next season, and hope to have a very strong showing gin the NTL, and at the District IV playoffs,” said Snyder.
