NTL TRACK & FIELD: NEB HAS STRONG PERFORMANCES IN 2021 TO BUILD FROM IN 2022 (2021-06-08)

Northern Tier Sports Report
It was a tough season for NEB track with their low numbers, however, they did have some strong performers this season, especially in the throws.

“Our season was filled with some inconsistencies with practices and meets due to the pandemic, but our athletes maintained a positive attitude,” said assistant coach Michele Cowles. “Our Junior High, and Senior High athletes both worked really hard at practices, and managed to be competitive within their events.”

They weren’t able to win any dual meets, but that had more to due with their numbers than talent.

“The one thing that kept our team from being an ‘overall’ successful team was our size,” said Cowles. “Our numbers were low, and there were several meets that the team competed against larger schools with larger teams. However, every meet the team competed in they strived each time for their own personal best.”

Senior Paige Howell won an NTL Invite title in the discus, while her (discus, javelin), Melanie Shumway (400), Dan Williams (javelin, shot put), Dan Seeley (discus shot put), and Austin Kithcart (110 hurdles, high jump) all qualified for the District IV Championships. Seeley and Howell even brought home medals in the discus, as Seeley was fourth and Howell came in fifth.

Looking ahead, they return much of their team, and hope to add some new athletes to the mix next season.

“Our Junior High team shows great potential, and have many athletes moving up to the varsity team next year,” said Cowles. “We are looking forward to seeing what the team will consist of, and can’t wait to begin training.”
