NTL TRACK & FIELD: TROY HAS STRONG 2021, HIGHLIGHTED BY HAGIN'S STATE MEDAL (2021-06-09)

Northern Tier Sports Report
After three long years Troy was finally able to make history this past season as they hosted their first home meet since the mid-90’s, and their first meet on a track not made of gravel.

They also had some strong performances, led by Dustin Hagin’s 5th place medal in the 110 hurdles at the PIAA Championships.

“We had a great season,” said coach Barry Morgan. “With the numbers this year, the coaching staff was very happy with the way our teams competed each and every meet. Running on our own track made the season even more special.”

The girls were in the contention for the league championship right up until the end, as they went 7-2 on the year. The boys’ team was also above .500 at 5-4 for the season.

Individually, five of their six relays made districts, along with 13 different athletes.

Hagin (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles), Ridge Spencer (100, 200, 400, long jump), Isais Watkins (200, 400), freshman Colin Loveland (triple jump, long jump), Seth Seymour (pole vault), and Wyatt Hodlofski (triple jump).

Their 4x100 relay was made up of Loveland, Hodlofski, Watkins, and Shammar Wolslagle, while Jacob Hinman, Brady Sergeant, Seymour, and Owen Williams made up their 4x800 relay.

Hagin took second at districts in the high hurdles to qualify for states, while also taking fifth in the 300 hurdles. Spencer had a strong performance at districts as well, taking 4th in the 400 out of the second heat. He was also seventh in the long jump.

For the girls, Anneliese Getola (100, 100 hurdles), Grace Sherman (100, long jump), Elizabeth Geer (300 hurdles), Sydney Taylor (300 hurdles), Olivia Call (pole vault), Bailey Johnson (pole vault), and Hope Houseknecht (shot put) all made districts.

Their 4x100 relay of Caelyn Pine, Anna Lewis, Getola, and Sherman took home a sixth place medal out of the second heat.

Julia Colton, Molly Davison, Johnson, and Geer ran the 4x400 relay, and Colton, Lilly DePew, Natalie Williams, and Taylor all ran in the 4x800 relay.

“Overall, I was very happy with our season after taking over the head coaching duties,” said Morgan. “Especially, capping off the season with Dustin bringing home a 5th place medal from states.”

Much of their team returns for both boys, and girls, next year - including Hagin - so they have a strong foundation to build towards 2022.
