NTL BASEBALL: YOUTH TROY BASEBALL TEAM SHOWS PROMISE IN 2021 (2021-06-20)

Northern Tier Sports Reportbr>In 2021 Troy baseball returned just one player who had any high school experience - varsity or JV - making them one of the youngest and least experienced teams in the NTL.

However, they showed promise as the season went on, even flirting for a playoff berth in the middle of the year.

They opened the year with a 4-1 win over CV, but dropped their next four games to fall into a 1-4 hole.

Then came their best week of the season, which began with close wins over Towanda (8-7) and Williamson (12-10). That was followed by a 10-7 extra inning loss to league champions Sayre. It was the first time all year Sayre played a full seven innings.

Sitting at 3-5 it’s the closest Troy came to .500 all season. They would drop two more games after that, before picking up their biggest win of the season, 9-5 over playoff bound Wyalusing.

However, Troy would go 1-5 to end the year, their lone victory over NEB (11-3).

A pair of sophomores led them in hitting: Kory Schucker and Justice Chimics. Schucker batted .375 with nine doubles and a triple, while Chimics hit .341 with four doubles.

A pair of seniors returning to the game of their youth made an impact as well, with Caleb Binford hitting .269 and a team leading 12 runs, while Morgan Madigan hit .229  with six doubles and two home runs.

The lone returner Evan Short hit .256 with 11 runs scored. Short also led the team with 19 strikeouts on the year.

Going forward Troy returns pretty much all of their infield, but will have to find some pitching as after Schucker their top two innings eaters will be graduating.

Regardless, the future looks bright for the Trojans.
