NEB'S FRANKLIN PLAYER OF THE YEAR FOR BRADFORD COUNTY ALL-STARS (2021-07-24)
Northern Tier Sports ReportEven after a year off the top teams in the league from two years ago continued to shine, with NEB going undefeated to take the Division-II title, while Wyalusing and Athens shared the Division-I championship again.
Leading the charge for the Panthers was sophomore pitcher Thailey Franklin. In her first year in the circle Franklin had a 1.145 ERA to go 15-2. She struck out 153 batters to just 13 walks.
Franklin was strong at the plate, hitting .377 with 15 runs scored, and five triples, all of which adds up to being named the Bradford County All-Stars Player of the Year.
Joining her in the awards is fellow sophomore Kayleigh Thoman. Thoman batted .460 in the leadoff spot, with 22 runs scored and a team leading 15 stolen bases. She is the Newcomer of the Year.
NEB also had a new coaching staff this year, led by Tilden Franklin. They went undefeated in the NTL, and were district runners-up, making them the Coaching Staff of the Year.
Wyalusing had the most disrupted season due to Covid-19, playing the majority of their games in the final couple of weeks. At one point they played 10 games in 10 days, with Hailey Jayne pitching in all of them.
Jayne finished the season with a 1.55 ERA with 171 strikeouts to just 19 walks, making her the Pitcher of the Year.
Athens was able to compete all season due to a deep line-up, led by Harley Sullivan. Sullivan hit .569 with 10 doubles, two triples, three home runs, 21-RBIs, and 39 runs scored. That’s good enough to make her the Offensive Player of the Year.
The first team consists of NEB’s Thailey Franklin, Emily Susanj, Kayleigh Thoman, and Maisie Neuber, Canton’s Emmi Ward, Molly Ward, and Keri Wesneski, Athens’ Caydence Macik, and Harley Sullivan, Towanda’s Brea Overpeck, and Wyalusing’s Hailey Jayne.
On the second team are Wyalusing’s Jenelle Johns, London Edwards, and Danella Cornell, Towanda’s Maddie Maynard, Athens’ Audrey Hatch, and Aliyah Butler, Troy’s Lindsay Steele, Rachel Kingsley, Olivia Tate, and Tyra Williams, and Canton’s Allyson Butcher.
