TROY GRAD SEYMOUR HAPPY WHERE HE'S AT IN LEHIGH (2021-07-27)
BY CHRIS MANNINGNorthern Tier Sports ReportTroy graduate Sheldon Seymour has finished one year of college at Lehigh, and what a year it was, thanks, in large part, to the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Now, though, he hopes to have a more normal season, and that begins this summer.
“We’ve been training 2-times a day at Lehigh,†said Seymour. “Lifting, getting bigger and strong, and, with wrestling, we’re just focusing on technique, getting better in certain positions.
It also means competing on the mat.
“I did Juniors, and U-23,†remarked Seymour, who finished sixth at Juniors.
“I wasn’t completely sure of my abilities, and I was kind of nervous,†he said. “I got a couple matches under my belt, and I just got back into it.â€
At U-23 Seymour used it as a measuring stick to see where he was at going into next season.
“That was like going against older guys, more college level experience,†he explained. “It was good to test my waters, and see where I was at.â€
Just like he did when he entered high school, Seymour has his sights set high.
“My first goal is making the starting line-up,†he said. “And, if I do that, to be an NCAA All-American, and an NCAA Champion.â€
Of course, just getting to Nationals can be a slog, qualifying through IWA’s as one example, but that’s part of the appeal for Seymour.
“It’ll be fun,†he remarked.
Regardless, he’s certainly enjoying life right now - whether it’s hanging out with his teammates during the off-season or working with his younger brother Seth - Sheldon couldn’t be happier with where things are for him.
That was evident at the Waverly camp he instructed at this summer.
“It’s so fun, there’s so many ways to give back,†he said. “It just comes full circle.â€
