NTL GIRLS' SOCCER: NEB ROLLS PAST JUNIATA CHRISTIAN FOR DISTRICT WIN (2021-10-26)

Northern Tier Sports Report
SELINSGROVE — The last time the NEB’s got a playoff soccer win they needed a shootout to advance. On Tuesday, the Lady Panthers didn’t let it be that close, as they defeated Juniata Christian 5-0 to advance in the District IV, Class A playoffs.

“This is our second time making it to the second round of districts in our school's history; I am very proud of these girls,” Kayleigh Thoman, who had a goal in the contest, said about the accomplishment. “We all did amazing during the game. We started out slow, but picked it right up. Team work really helped during this game, and if we keep playing like we are, we will make it far.”

Shumway had two goals in the contest, as Alena Beebe, and Keirra Thoman also scored.

“It was a great opportunity to be able to go to districts with the team,” said Shumway. “We have such a great team, and coaches; everyone is so uplifting and we keep each other up. Scoring two goals in a big district game like this felt amazing, and I had so much fun playing.”

The Panthers led 1-0 at the halfway point, but put in four goals in the second half to pull away in the wet conditions.

“We relied a lot on hitting our through balls, and that’s what we did,” explained Shumway. “We capitalized on defense. Overall, our team did amazing, and we are excited to play on Saturday.”

Shumway also had two assists, as Beebe had a helper, too.

“It was a great night, and we hustled hard,” said Beebe. “We also had great team work, and showed we wanted it more.”

Ciana Frisbie had 12 saves to get the shutout, as NEB out shot Juniata Christian 21-16. They also had a 10-4 edge in corner kicks.

The Panthers will now face top seed South Williamsport at a place and time to be determined on Saturday.
