NTL VOLLEYBALL: TROY BATTLES THROUGH REBUILDING SEASON (2021-11-22)

Northern Tier Sports Report
It was a rebuilding season for the Troy Trojan volleyball squad as they graduated all of their key players but one from the 2020 team that made districts. Still, they had some bright spots, and saw a lot of younger players get court time.

Troy went 3-13 on the season with their biggest win over Towanda on the road, 3-2, in a match they were down 0-2. Something about Towanda brought out the best in the Trojans as they lost to them in five sets at home.

They also had wins against Sayre (3-1) and CV (3-1), while nearly knocking off Wellsboro 3-2 to end the season.

The one holdover from last year who saw a lot of playing time, Meredith Cole, had another strong year, with 133 kills, 29 aces, and 219 digs.

Madison Vargas also had a strong year with 27 aces, nine blocks, 170 digs, and 102 assists.

Senior Tailynn Stahle finished with 72 assists, and 122 digs, while Tyra Williams (121 digs) and Kaitlyn Ensminger (106 digs) provided backline support.

Their youth proved to be solid at the net, with junior Savannah Spencer leading the way with 39 blocks, while freshman Josie Kerrick had 21 blocks, and Jalayna Young, another junior, added 11 blocks.

Looking ahead to 2022 Troy loses four seniors, but a lot of underclassmen saw time on the court, giving them a leg up come next season. As other squads look to fill in gaps, the Trojans should have a good idea, coming into the first practice next August, what they have, and what they need to work on.
