NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: NEB COMES UP SHORT AGAINST NP-LIBERTY (2022-01-12)

ROME — A slow start, and rough fourth quarter, doomed NEB in their 56-33 loss to NP-Liberty during NTL Division-II boys’ basketball action Wednesday.

NPL jumped out to a 34-17 halftime lead. The Panthers cut into the deficit after the third quarter, but mustered just three points in the fourth as the Mounties pulled away.


Sam Abell led NEB with 11 points, and four rebounds, as Dan Seeley finished with nine points, six boards, three assists, two steals, and two blocks.


Josh Stanton added eight points to go with three assists, and two steals, while Dylan Donnelly had three points. Joe Stanton, and Shakei Smith added one point each, with Josh also getting two steals and three steals, while smith grabbed five boards.


Andrew Beers chipped in with five rebounds, and two assists.


Derek Litzelman had 18 points to lead the Mounties, as Devin Bradley scored 17.


NPL jumped out to a 19-11 first quarter lead behind eight points from Bradley, and 11 from Litzelman. Abell had two 3-balls to lead NEB, as Seeley scored five points.


The Mounties kept it up in the second, out pacing the Panthers 15-6, with Noah Shedden scoring eight points to lead the way. 


NEB righted the ship in the third, hitting four 3-pointers as a team - Josh Stanton had two himself - to cut it to 44-30 going into the final frame.


In the fourth NPL held NEB to just one field goal as they secured the win.


NEB JV lost 38-36 as Donnelly had 12 for the Panthers.


The Panthers travel to Canton on Friday with a 7:30 p.m. start.
