ON TAP TODAY: GIRLS' HOOPS AND WRESTLING TAKE CENTER STAGE (2022-01-20)

Northern Tier Sports Report
A mix of wrestling and girls’ hoops for today, with six contests on the docket.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Canton (7-5) at Troy (7-3), 7:15 p.m.: The Trojans will be looking to rebound from their loss against Towanda earlier in the week, while the Warriors are riding a 2-game win streak into the Commons Building. Both teams have quality freshmen on display - Kendall Kitchen for Canton, and Alyssa Parks for Troy.

NP-Liberty (3-8) at Wyalusing (3-8), 7:30 p.m.: Wyalusing returns home for the first time in a week as they host the Mounties. NPL won their game last year, out in Liberty, so the Rams will be looking to get some revenge. Olivia Leichliter has upped her average the last two games, putting up 10 points per during that stretch.

NEB (9-2) at NP-Mansfield (4-8), 7:30 p.m.: The Panthers are riding a 6-game win streak into Mansfield as they look to tighten their grip on the NTL Division-II standings. Their leading scorer Maisie Neuber has been averaging 27 points per game over her last two.

WRESTLING

Troy at Canton, 7 p.m.: A rivalry match as the Trojans are the last big hurdle for Canton to get over en route to their third straight NTL title. Both teams wrestled well at the New Oxford Tournament over the weekend, while Canton eked out a 12-point win over Towanda on Tuesday.

NEB at Sayre, w/Athens, 7 p.m.: The Panthers will have a 2-for-1 match today as they prepare for their upcoming duals on Saturday. Watch for the heavyweight match against Athens - NEB’s Kamden Ricci against Athens’ Josh Nittinger.

Towanda at Wellsboro, 7 p.m.: The Knights are coming off a strong performance against Canton winning six, and nearly seven, of the 13 bouts in the loss. They get Wyalusing this weekend, so this is the middle portion of a big week for them.
