Northern Tier Sports Report
WELLSBORO — A slow start hampered Wyalusing as they fell to Wellsboro 41-22 during NTL Division-I girls’ basketball action Monday.

The Rams found themselves down eight points after the first frame, cut the lead to five points at the half, but then score just seven points in the second half.

Olivia Leichliter had a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds to go with two blocks for Wyalusing, as Chloe Bennett finished with five points.

Layla Botts had four points, seven boards, and two assists, with Marissa Johnson and Bryn Zionkowski scoring one point each. Olivia Spencer chipped in with two steals.

The Rams were missing a few players, including starter Laci Norton.

Emma Coolidge led Wellsboro with 16 points.

Wyalusing wasn’t able to record a field goal in the first quarter, falling behind 11-3 after the first horn. A 12-point second quarter, sparked by seven from Leichliter and five from Bennett, cut it 20-15 at the half.

Their scoring woes came back in the third quarter, as they netted just three points again, though they were down just 28-18 with one quarter to go.

In the fourth Coolidge scored six of the Hornets’ 13 points as they pulled away for the win.

Wyalusing travels to CV on Wednesday.
