NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: SCHOONOVER'S UNIQUE DOUBLE-DOUBLE HELPS TOWANDA PAST CANTON (2022-01-26)

CANTON — Towanda’s Gracie Schoonover had the rare rebounds-blocks double-double as Towanda stayed unbeaten in the NTL, beating Canton 59-29 in girls’ basketball action Wednesday.

Schoonover had 11 boards and 11 blocks to go with six points for the Knights, as Porschia Bennett added 24 points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals.


Paige Manchester had 16 points, six rebounds, five assists, and two steals, with Bella Hurley chipping to score five points.


Destiny Brennan and Aziza Ismailova had three points each, with Athena Chacona scoring two.


Aislyn Williams led Canton with 13 points to go with four rebounds, while Emme Tymeson finished with six points and two steals. Kendall Kitchen notched five point and four rebounds, Molly Ward had four points, eight rebounds, and two steals, with Jazmyn Hickok adding one point to go with three boards.


Towanda started strong as they jumped out to a 20-12 first quarter lead. Manchester had nine to lead the Knights, with Hurley tallying all five her points in the frame. Williams helped keep Canton in contact with a six point quarter, as Tymeson added four.


In the second, though, Bennett got rolling for Towanda with seven points to help them to a 33-18 lead at the half.


The Knights then put the game away with a 22 point third quarter as Bennett scored 13, helping Towanda build a 55-26 lead.


Canton will travel to Wyalusing on Friday, while Towanda turns around and hosts Athens on Thursday with a 7:30 p.m. start.
