ON TAP TODAY: A FEW BIG HOOPS GAMES HIGHLIGHT THIS EVENING (2022-01-27)

Northern Tier Sports Report
A few high quality hoops games on tap for today, while the Trojans wrap up their NTL wrestling season.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Wellsboro (11-2) at Wyalusing (11-5), 7:30 p.m.: The game with the furthest reaching consequence as the league race in both divisions will be affected. A Wyalusing win ensures that, even if they lose to Canton the next time the play, they’ll still be in the lead as long as they beat every other team in the division. It also puts Troy back in the lead for the NTL Division-I title. A Wellsboro win keeps them tied with Troy, and opens a window for Canton, putting them one game back from the Rams.

Waverly at Troy (11-2), 7:30 p.m.: A non-league game between two good teams, a Trojan win will help them in the District IV, Class AAA standings, as they currently sit in third place. It’s also a homecoming for Waverly coach Lou Judson, who played his hoops at Troy.

Canton (11-4) at Williamson (2-10), 7:30 p.m.: A must win game for Canton if they want any shot of getting the NTL Division-II title. Williamson has lost their last four games.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Athens (9-3) at Towanda (11-3), 7:30 p.m.: A game that’s been moved more times than anybody can count will now finally get played. The Knights sit two games ahead of Athens in the NTL standings, while Athens will need a win here to keep their division title hopes alive.

WRESTLING

Troy at Wellsboro, 7 p.m.: A make-up from earlier in the season, the Trojans need a win here to qualify for district duals. The Hornets are coming off a win over NEB earlier in the week.
