COLLEGE: TROY'S SEYMOUR TAKES SIXTH AT EIWA'S (2022-03-06)

Northern Tier Sports Report
ITHACA — Lehigh’s Sheldon Seymour, a Troy graduate, had a strong showing at the EIWA Tournament, though it was one with a tough ending. Seymour finished sixth, but had to medically forfeit his place match, at 125 pounds.

Seymour took the place of the injured Jaret Lane, and had to wrestle seven bouts in all during the tournament.

He opened with a fall over Binghamton’s Nick Curley in 3:27 in the preliminaries, but lost to the top seed, Princeton’s Patrick Glory, in the first round.

Seymour would get hot in the consolations, though, beating Drexel’s Antonio Mininno 14-4, then edged Navy’s Jacob Allen 5-4.

Seymour then guaranteed himself a spot on the podium with an 18-3 technical fall win over Brown’s Reese Fry in the consolation quarterfinals.

He nearly earned a spot at Nationals in the consolation semifinals, falling by 1-point margin, 3-2, to Columbia’s Joe Manchio.

Then in his final match he forfeited to Harvard’s Beau Bayless.

Seymour is eligible for an at-large selection, which will be decided on Tuesday.

Athens’ graduate A.J. Burkhart was third at 184 pounds, punching his ticket to nationals. As a team Lehigh was fourth with 111 points.

The NCAA Championships are March 17-19 in Detroit.
