NTL SOFTBALL: NEB COMES UP SHORT AGAINST NPL (2022-05-14)
Northern Tier Sports ReportROME — NEB fell in a pitcher’s duel to NPL, 3-1, during NTL softball action Friday.
The Mounties jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but NEB got it back with a run in the bottom of the third.
NPL broke the tie with a run in the fourth, then added an insurance run in the seventh to get the win.
Kayleigh Thoman (1-for-3) had a double with a run scored for the Panthers, while Emily Susanj (1-for-2), Julia Brown (1-for-3), and Toni Herb (1-for-3) also had hits.
Thailey Franklin scored the loss, striking out seven with two walks, 10 hits, and three earned runs.
In the third Thoman hit a 2-out double to get in scoring position. After stealing third, she scored on an error off the bat of Melanie Shumway - she laid down a bunt - tying the game up.
McKenzie Tice struck out nine for NPL, including the final two batters in the seventh to secure the win.
NEB (13-2) will await to see who they have in districts.
