SHIPPENSBURG — After an entire career of working to make states, NEB’s Dan Seeley did one better on Friday, earning a state medal.

The Panther senior took seventh in the PIAA Track and Field Class AA discus competition with a throw of 151-feet even.

“It feels good,” Seeley said about getting on the podium. “I was just a little disappointed I didn’t get the school record.”

Seeley had been gunning for the school record - 152-feet, 11-inches - the past few weeks, and nearly got it at districts when he won the title, finishing 10 inches short.

His biggest goal was to keep from faulting.

“I wanted to stay in the circle, but I think that kind of hurt me a little as I didn’t throw as hard as I usually would,” Seeley remarked.

After two throws at 143-feet, Seeley earned his spot in the finals with the 151-foot throw on his final toss of the flights.

He wasn’t able to best that in the championship flight, through an out of bounds throw on his second attempt maybe have been close.

There was a 2-hour weather delay for the afternoon events as severe weather hit the area, but Seeley doesn’t think that affected him.

He did enjoy the competition, and seeing what the best in the state could do, with Wyomissing’s J’Ven Williams winning the event in 167-feet.

“It was really fun to watch,” Seeley said. “It feels cool to be here, but I could have done better.”

He admitted that he was pressing a little bit on his final few throws.

“I was going for it,” said Seeley.

School record or no school record, Seeley will still have a state medal from a his long career of throwing.

“I don’t know if it’s hit me yet.”
