LITTLE LEAGUE: TOWANDA MINORS USE BIG INNING TO TOP RTL (2022-06-25)

WYALUSING — Towanda Minors all-star baseball team used a 5-run third inning to propel them to a 7-3 win over RTL during bracket play Saturday.

RTL jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but found themselves down 5-2 midway through the third. They got one back in the bottom half of the inning to cut it to 5-3.

Towanda would hold them scoreless the final three innings, though, getting insurance runs in the fourth and fifth to take the win.

Dempsey Stevens went 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored, and 2-RBI, while Wyatt Jones (1-for-2), Brayden Cox (1-for-2), and Drew Maghamez (1-for-2) also had hits. Jones and Maghamez both scored twice, as Cox and Nolan Tuttle each scored as well.

Maghamez started and went 3 1/3-innings with eight strikeouts. Hudson Nash pitched 1 2/3-innings with three strikeouts, while Tuttle finished out the final inning with two strike outs.

Noah Shaffer went 1-for-1 for RTL with two runs scored, while Garrett Gowin also scored.

Aiden Nystrand pitched the first three innings, striking out six. Eli Tinna went the next two innings with five strikeouts, and Shaffer tossed the final inning, striking out one.

Towanda moves into the semifinals, where they face the winner of Sayre and Athens on Wednesday, June 29. RTL will fall into the consolation bracket, where they take on Blue Ridge on Monday, June 27.
