LITTLE LEAGUE: CANTON HOLDS ON LATE TO BEAT ALLEGHANY MOUNTAIN (2022-06-25)

Canton held on to beat Alleghany Mountain, 16-14, during Minors baseball all-star action in bracket play Saturday.

Canton jumped out to a 4-1 lead after three innings, then scored three in the top of the fourth to make it 7-1. Alleghany Mountain rallied with two runs in the bottom half to stay within shouting distance.


A 5-run fifth from Canton put Alleghany Mountain on the brink, and they responded with a 9-run bottom half, tying the game up at 12-12 with one inning left.


Canton would score four in the top of the sixth, then held Alleghany to two in the bottom half to pull out the win.


Oliver Sechrist went 5-for-5 with a double, three runs scored, and 2-RBI, while Marshall Preston was 2-for-4 with two doubles, 4-RBI, and three runs scored.


Tate Cole went 3-for-5 with a double and 2-RBI, while Gauge Rockwell was 3-for-3 with two runs scored. 


Drake VanNoy was 1-for-2 with a double, four runs scored, and 2-RBI, with Will Schoonover going 1-for-2 with two runs scored. Jeremy Blaney went 1-for-4 with an RBI, Levi Fitzwater was 1-for-3 with a run scored, while Colby Colton also scored.


Cole went the first 3 1/3-innings with nine strikeouts, while VanNoy went an inning with two strikeouts. Preston went 1 1/3-innings with three strikeouts, with Parker Earle going the final third to secure the win.


Canton moves on to the semifinals on Wednesday, June 29, as they will face the winner of Southern Tioga and Wellsboro.
