LITTLE LEAGUE: NEBALL USES STRONG START TO TOP CANTON (2022-07-01)
Northern Tier Sports ReportWINDHAM — NEBall started fast, and used that to top Canton, 11-5, during minors softball all-star bracket play Thursday.
The win keeps NEBall alive as they will face Troy next Wednesday, while Canton’s run comes to an end.
NEBall jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, but in the top of the second Canton struck back with three runs of their own to cut it to 5-3.
NEBall would add two more in the bottom half to make it 7-3, then scored another two in the third to take a 9-3 lead. Canton would score in the fourth, but NEBall notched two more in the fifth to go up 11-4. Canton got their final run in the sixth.
Kinley Thoman went 3-for-4 with a home run and three runs scored to lead NEBall, while Emilie Maynard was 2-for-3 with three runs. Khloe Winters went 3-for-4 with a run scored.
Onaleigh Gardner had two hits with a run scored, while Zoey Thetga, and Julia Gray each had a hit with a run scored.
Lizzy Stanton scored a run, with Trinity Fick getting a hit.
Thoman struck out 13 in the win.
For Canton Peyton Taylor had the big bat, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Raya Preston went 2-for-3 with a double and 2-RBI, while Lindley Sechrist was 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI.
Amelia Pepper had a triple with an RBI, while Brenna VanNoy, Haleigh Shultz, and Rory Herman each had a hit. Shultz and Layla Deming both scored runs.
Preston struck out four in the loss.
