LITTLE LEAGUE: HOT BATS HELP TOWANDA ROLL PAST SOUTHERN TIOGA (2022-07-02)

Northern Tier Sports Report
TOWANDA — Towanda pounded out 13 hits in their 13-1 win over Southern Tioga in four innings to reach the winner’s bracket final during District 15 Little League Majors all-star baseball action Saturday.

Towanda jumped out with four runs in the top of the first, then added three more in the second to go up 7-0. A 6-run top third saw their lead balloon to 13-0, though Southern Tioga got a run back in the bottom half. Neither team scored in the final inning.

The middle of the order for Towanda really shined, as their four and five batters went a combined 6-for-6 with three doubles, six runs scored, and 4-RBI. Shane Maghamez went 3-for-3 with a double, three runs scored, and an RBI, while Keegan Stroud was 3-for-3 with two doubles - including a ground rule double - three runs scored, and 3-RBI.

Boom Thompson went 2-for-3 with a double, and three runs scored, while Brad Assante-Dicupillo was 2-for-3 with a double, and a run scored.

Hagen Jones had a hit with two runs scored, while Harper Welles had a double with 3-RBI. Josh Maye added a hit, while Gage Evans and Blayke Spencer each had an RBI.

Jones went the distance on the mound, striking out two while allowing six hits, and one earned run. The Towanda defense was stout throughout the game, with Assante-Dicupillo ending it as he slid into first base to beat the batter for the final out.

They have a long break until their next game, as they take on Athens, 21-2 winners over Susquehanna County, on Friday, July 8. A win there puts them in the driver’s seat for the district title, which will be played on July 12. A loss drops them down into the consolation bracket, where they will play on July 10.
