NTL FOOTBALL: CANTON WELCOMES SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT FOR SATURDAY CONTEST (2022-09-23)

Northern Tier Sports Report
Canton (4-0) is riding high, and will welcome South Williamsport (3-1) for their annual Saturday afternoon contest.

The Warriors seem to get better every week as they’re coming off a 63-0 win over Towanda. After a 28-0 drubbing at the hands of Milton to open the season, South has gone 3-0, outscoring their opponents 185-34 over the last three weeks.

“South Williamsport is a physical football team,” said Canton coach Tyler Sechrist. “They are well coached, and ready to play every week.”

Their offense will be a new test for Canton, who hasn’t allowed a score since week one against Union.

“We need to remain disciplined on defense, and play fast, and tackle well,” said Sechrist.

Offensively they’re starting to come around as well, especially in the air, as four different quarterbacks combined to go 7-for-7 last week against Towanda.

“It all starts up front,” Sechrist said. “We have a great group of experienced linemen who open up holes for our athletes to create plays.”

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Brenen Taylor, Canton, LB - After getting a fumble recovery for a touchdown against Wellsboro, Taylor had two defensive touchdowns against Towanda. Taylor is third on the team with 18 tackles on the season, so he’ll be key in slowing down the Mounties.

Radley Knapp, South Williamsport, QB - Knapp is coming off a three passing touchdown performance against CV. Knapp was 7-for-8 for 115 yards in that game.

KEYS TO THE GAME

Canton - Come out strong. They weren’t firing on all cylinders to start the game against Towanda, as it took a couple Black Knight giveaways to get them going. If they have a slow start against South they could find themselves down early.

South Williamsport - Stay on blocks. Nobody tackles as well as Canton does, as they’re masters at wrapping up legs. In order to sustain drives South will need to block well in order to give their skill players a chance to get into the open field.
