ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: TROY'S SMITH, NEB'S LAUDERMILCH POST STRONG WEEKS (2022-09-25)

It was another exciting week in sports, as football hit their mid-season point, while other teams are closing in on the halfway point of their seasons.

It was another strong week for NEB’s Gracelyn Laudermilch, winning a dual meet race to help her team stay undefeated. Laudermilch also ran under 19 minutes (18:58.7) at the Owego Invitational to take the Small School title, as her team won another invite, to be the Female Athlete of the Week.


For the boys Troy’s Clayton Smith had his second straight 200-yard rushing outing, this time against Athens. He finished with 222 yards and four touchdowns 22 carries to help the Trojans get to 5-0 on the year, good enough to be the Male Athlete of the Week.


Notables: Wyalusing’s Parker Petlock had two touchdown passes, and a rushing touchdown in a win over Montgomery…Towanda’s Riley Vanderpool* had 185 yards rushing and three scores, plus a kick-off return for a touchdown, against Wellsboro…Canton’s Holden Ward had a passing and rushing touchdown against South Williamsport to help the Warriors stay undefeated…NEB’s Creed Dewing* was the top Small School runner at the Owego Invite…Wyalusing’s Jeremy Clauser was the second Small School runner at Owego...Towanda’s Jack Wheaton had two goals and an assist this week as the Knights went 1-1…NEB’s Melanie Shumway hit the game winner against Williamson…Canton’s Aislyn Williams had 36 points, 11 aces, 26 kills, and 31 digs this past week as the Warriors went 2-1…Towanda’s Paige Manchester had 16 points and 22 kills in a win over CV…NEB’s Gabby Susanj had 20 assists, seven digs, and three kills in a win over Towanda…Wyalusing’s Hannah Ely had 13 kills, 16 digs, and three aces in two wins…Troy’s Kali Ayres finished with 23 kills, 34 assists, 13 aces, 22 digs, and four blocks on the week as the Trojans went 2-1…Troy’s Addy Parker* had seven goals and an assist in two wins this week…Towanda’s Katey Calaman had two wins at third singles in Towanda’s two team victories this past week.
