NTL FOOTBALL: TROY ROLLS OVER WELLSBORO (2022-09-30)

WELLSBORO — Troy routed Wellsboro 45-3 during NTL football action on Friday.

The Trojans led 28-3 after the opening quarter, then scored 17 more points in the second for the 42-point half-time lead.

Evan Woodward had the big game for Troy, going 3-for-4 for 104 yards and two touchdowns from the pocket, while also running the ball three times for 45 yards and a score. Clayton Smith added 11 carries for 47 yards and two touchdowns.

Justice Chimics had two catches for 84 yards and a score, while Mason Woodward had a 20-yard touchdown reception. 

Troy struck first as Smith ran one in from 4-yards out with 8:50 on the clock in the first quarter. Chimics added the point after, and it was 7-0 Trojans.

Wellsboro responded with a 33-yard field on their ensuing drive off the foot of Jack Poirier.

However, Troy’s Charles Oldroyd would answer quickly, returning the kick-off 90-yards to pay dirt. Chimics’ kick was good, giving the Trojans a 14-3 lead.

With 4:34 left in the quarter Evan Woodward ran one in from 44-yards out, as Chimics’ kick made it 21-3.

Troy’s final score of the quarter was an Evan Woodward to Chimics 78-yard hook up with two seconds left to play. Chimics added the point after to make it 28-3.

Troy’s next score was a brother-to-brother connection, as Evan Woodward hit Mason Woodward for a 20-yard scoring strike. Chimics’ kick was good for the 35-3 lead with 7:48 left in the half.

Chimics then nailed a 31-yard field goal with 5:40 left to play in the half.

Troy’s final score was a 1-yard run from Smith with 1:43 on the clock. Chimics’ kick was good for the 45-3 tally.

The Trojans out gained Wellsboro 359-120, and forced three turnovers.

Troy (6-0) will host Towanda next Friday.
