THE SPORTS REPORTS: ATHENS' MILLER, CORNING'S TERWILLIGER REGIONAL 'ATHLETES OF THE WEEK' (2022-10-03)

Athens junior Korey Miller had a big offensive week, helping the Wildcats to a pair of wins, while Corning diver Brooke Terwilliger had another record-setting performance to earn The Sports Reports’ Regional “Athletes of the Week” for the week ending Oct. 1.

ATHENS’ MILLER NAMED REGIONAL BOYS ‘ATHLETE OF THE WEEK’
Athens junior Korey Miller scored seven goals, and dished out a pair of assists to help the Wildcats to a 2-0-1 week.

Miller scored three goals and doled out two assists Monday to lead Athens in a 9-1 win over Towanda.

On Saturday, Miller scored four goals in the first half, including his first three in a five-minute span, in a 4-0 win over Northeast Bradford.

In between, Athens and Williamson battled to a scoreless double-overtime draw.

Honorable mentions are: Owego’s Jace Stuart (cross country), Waverly’s Joey Tomasso (football), Notre Dame’s Jose Neto (soccer), Wyalusing’s Nick Salsman (golfer), Cowanesque Valley’s Kristian Mizdail (cross country), and North Penn-Mansfield’s Karson Dominic (football).

CORNING’S TERWILLIGER NAMED REGIONAL GIRLS ‘ATHLETE OF THE WEEK’
Brooke Terwilliger broke a 35-year-old pool record at Vestal in diving. The Corning diver had a six-dive score of 299.60, eclipsing the previous mark set by Missy Urbanic of Vestal back in 1987.

Terwilliger’s dive is the best in Section 4 this year, by more than 7 points. Only 2 divers this year have scores of 260.20.

The score by Terwilliger is fifth best in the state so far this year. Terwilliger finished 10th at States in 2021.

Honorable mentions are: Athens’ Ally Thoman, Owego’s Katelyn Katchuk (diving, Canton’s Aislyn Williams (volleyball), and NP-Liberty’s Saige Lehman (volleyball).
