NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: NEB PULLS AWAY FROM CANTON FOR WIN (2023-01-28)

CANTON — Northeast Bradford stayed undefeated in division play, pulling away from Canton for a 56-33 win during NTL Small School girls’ basketball action Friday.

NEB had an 11 point lead after the first quarter, but Canton rallied in the second as the Panthers took a 28-16 lead into the locker rooms. They steadily pulled away in the second half, out scoring Canton 28-17.


Alena Beebe had 15 points to lead the Panthers, including three 3-balls, while Kayleigh Thoman added 12 points. 


Lani Thomas netted nine, Emma Neuber had seven, Kate O’Connor finished with six, Lilah Hughes added four, and Leah Beebe netted three.


Carolyn Thoren had 14 points and two steals for Canton as Molly Ward added a double-double of 10 points and 18 boards, plus four assists, and four steals.


Emmie Tymeson had six points, with Sarah Davy netting two. Jazmyn Hickok added one point to go with four boards and four steals, as Sammy Brackman chipped in with three assists.


Alena and Neuber led NEB’s fast start with five points each in the first quarter to put them up 15-4. In the second Thoren jump started Canton with six points, while Ward netted four, though NEB kept pace as Alena had five more to give them a 12-point lead at the break.


The Panthers would net 12 more in the third off five field goals, with four from Thoman, while Thoren led Canton’s 10 point frame with four points.


Thoman led the Panthers to the finish with eight points - including two 3-balls - in the final frame, which saw NEB out score Canton 16-7.


NEB won the JV game 47-13 behind 15 from Becca VanDeMark, while Lillie Maynard scored 13, and Leah Beebe had 12.


Canton (7-9) hosts Athens on Saturday with a 7:15 p.m. start, while NEB (12-2) will host Bloomsburg on Monday.
