NTL WRESTLING: TOWANDA HAS FOUR MEDALISTS AT ULTIMATE WARRIOR (2023-01-28)

WEST BRANCH — Towanda had four medalists at the West Branch Ultimate Warrior Tournament on Saturday.

Mason Higley (172) was the highest in fifth place, with Riley Vanderpool (139) taking sixth. Sawyer Robinson (189) and Wyatt Stranger (114) both came in seventh.


Higley lost in the semifinals by fall, then fell 3-0 in the consolation semifinals to fall into the fifth place bout. There he won 4-0 over Johnsonburg’s Rayce Milliard to take fifth.


After falling in the quarters on Friday, Vanderpool won his first two consolations bouts by fall to get into the consolation semifinals. He there he lost 2-0 to Canton’s Hayden Ward, falling into the fifth place bout, where he fell 8-3 to Marion Center’s Liam Cornetto.


Robinson won 8-0 in the blood round to get on the podium, but then fell to SCA’s Jude Bremen 5-4 to fall into the seventh place match. That’s where he beat Mount Union’s Josh Ryan 4-2 to take seventh.


Stranger won a 7-6 decision in the blood round to get onto the podium, but then lost by fall. In the seventh place bout he scored a 3-2 decision - his third one point win of the tournament - over Muncy’s Kase Snyder to take seventh.


Towanda’s Rylee Sluyter lost in his opening match on Saturday and came up just short of the medals, going 2-2 during the tournament.
