NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: TYMESON NETS 19 BUT CANTON COMES UP SHORT AGAINST ATHENS (2023-01-28)

Northern Tier Sports Report
CANTON Despite a hot shooting night from Emmie Tymeson Canton came up just short against Athens, falling 41-34, during NTL girls’ basketball action Saturday.

“Our kids played with so much heart, I’m proud of them,” said Canton coach Ryan VanNoy. “We just ran out of gas.”

Tymeson was 4-for-5 from 3-point land as part of her 19 point effort. She scored 11 of her points in the second quarter to give the Warriors a 21-16 lead at the half.

However, the Wildcats used a fourth quarter surge, out scoring Canton 15-4, to escape with the victory.

Molly Ward added six points, 18 boards, and three steals, while Jazmyn Hickok went 6-for-10 from the free throw line for six points. Sarah Davy netted two points as Carolyn Thoren came away with one point to go with five boards.

Karlee Bartlow had 13 to lead Athens.

Bartlow hit two 3-balls in the first quarter as part of Athens’ 14-6 first frame lead. The Warriors, though, dug in defensively, holding the Wildcats to just two points in the second quarter, as Tymeson went off to give them the five point lead at the break.

The two teams went back and forth in the third quarter, with Athens outscoring Canton 10-9 behind four points from Emma Bronson. Tymeson led the Warriors with six points in the frame.

In the fourth, though, Athens held Canton to no field goals - all of the Warriors’ four points came on free throws - as Bartlow netted seven to lead the Wildcats to the win. Athens went 8-for-9 from the charity stripe in the fourth.

Canton (7-9) hosts NP-Liberty on Wednesday with a 7:15 p.m. start. They’ve split the first two meetings with each other.
