NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: PARKS LEADS TROY PAST WYALUSING (2023-01-30)

WYALUSING — Troy jumped out early and pulled away as they defeated Wyalusing, 58-29, for the second time in four days during NTL Division-I girls’ basketball action Monday.

The Trojans led 18-9 after the first quarter as four different players recorded baskets, and the Rams weren’t able to recover.


Alyssa Parks had 15 points and five boards for Troy, with Rachel Kingsley getting 18 rebounds to go with for points.


Kailyn Sterling added nine points, four boards, three assists, three blocks, and two steals, as Katie Lackey Had eight points and eight rebounds. MaKenna Matthews and Katie Graham had six points each, with Gloria Andrews added five points to go with two steals. Ella VanNoy chipped in with three points and two steals.


Layla Botts led Wyalusing with 13 points, as Chloe Bennett and Elana Jennings had six points apiece. Treanna Nickeson and Emily Fowler both scored two.


Parks had eight points in the first quarter while Matthews netted all three of hers to lead Troy to their 9-point lead. Botts had four points to lead the Rams, while Jennings hit a 3-ball.


The offenses slowed somewhat in the second, though Parks did not, scoring seven more points, as Sterling netted five, to see the Trojans take a 30-16 lead at the half. Jennings hit another 3-ball in the second to lead Wyalusing.


The Rams dug in defensively in the third quarter, holding Troy to just nine points - Andrews led them with a 3-ball - but couldn’t get their offense going, scoring just five points themselves, all by Botts.


The Trojans went off again in the fourth with 17 points behind eight field goals, led by Graham’s six. Bennett had four in the fourth to lead the Rams.


The win clinches a district berth for Troy (11-5), who will host Williamson on Wednesday. Wyalusing (5-11) will look to break their 6-game losing streak as they host Athens on Wednesday.
