NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: MANCHESTER HAS BIG NIGHT BUT TOWANDA FALLS AT JERSEY SHORE (2023-01-30)

Northern Tier Sports Report
JERSEY SHORE — For three quarters Towanda hung in with Jersey Shore, one of the top teams in the district, but the Bulldogs pulled away in the fourth for a 58-43 win during non-league girls’ basketball action Monday.

“I was really proud of our kids’ effort the entire night,” said Towanda coach Rob Gentile. “They continuously fought in a really tough environment, and it was also a really fun battle between two of District IV’s premiere players in Peyton Dincher and Paige Manchester. It was really fun to watch them go at it, and neither disappointed.”

Manchester finished with 25 points, eight steals, five blocks, and five rebounds, while Dincher had 26 points on the back of 10 field goals, including two 3-pointers.

“We just got blitzed in the fourth quarter against a very good team, and we didn’t make the necessary adjustments or plays, and they did, which ultimately was the difference in the game.”

Brynn Woodruff added nine points and seven boards, as Bella Hurley had five points. Gracie Schoonover chipped in with two points, seven rebounds, and three blocks, as Aziza Ismailova also had two points.

Jersey Shore took a 14-10 lead in the opening quarter behind eight points from Cailyn Schall, while Manchester had six points for the Knights.

Towanda dug in defensively in the second quarter, holding Jersey Shore to just six points - all from Dincher - as they netted 14 themselves to take a 24-20 lead at the half. Manchester led the way with 11 points.

The two teams went back and forth in the third, and ended up ultimately tied at 37-all. Hurley stepped up and led the Knights with five points in that frame.

However, in the fourth Jersey Shore out scored them 21-6 as Dincher and Sophia Stover had six points each.

The loss drops Towanda to 12-4 on the season, as the Knights return to NTL action on Wednesday by traveling to Wellsboro.
