ON TAP TODAY: A SLATE OF KEY BOYS' BASKETBALL GAMES (2023-01-31)

Northern Tier Sports Report
A boys’ basketball day with plenty of good games to go around.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Troy (12-5) at NP-Mansfield (17-1), 7:15 p.m.: The first game came down to the wire with a 3-point Tiger win. Currently, NPM is the top team in the district with Troy holding on to third. Both teams are still in the running for a league title. Expect NPM’s small gym to be packed.

NEB (7-7) at Sayre (8-10), 7:15 p.m.: Another game with a lot of divisional and district meaning. Sayre is tied for first with three other teams at 5-6 in the NTL, NEB is just behind at 4-5. The Panthers held on for a win at their place just before Christmas, so a lot riding on this one.

Canton (8-8) at NP-Liberty (9-7), 7:15 p.m.: The Warriors have won two in a row as they head to the Mounties. Both teams are tied on top of the division at 5-6 with just a handful of games remaining. Both teams are also battling for district playoff positioning.

Wellsboro (12-4) at Towanda (8-8), 7:15 p.m.: Another key game on the night as the Knights look to secure their spot in the district playoffs. The Hornets are just one game behind NPM in the lead for the division, and trying to hold on to the second spot in the district standings.

Wyalusing (3-14) at Athens (11-6), 7:15 p.m.: After a long home stand the Rams will hit the road. They’ll be looking to break a 5-game losing streak at the Wildcats, who are coming off a tough loss on the road to Wellsboro themselves.
