NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: WYALUSING NEARLY UPSETS ATHENS (2023-01-31)

ATHENS — Wyalusing entered the fourth quarter with a 4-point lead, but Athens rallied in the final frame to edge the Rams, 70-64, during NTL Division-I boys’ basketball action Tuesday.

Blake Morningstar had 32 points for Wyalusing, including a 7-for-9 performance from the free throw line, but Athens’ Korey Miller scored 13 of his 16 points in the fourth to lead the Wildcats to the win.


Trehnon Hugo netted 12 points for the Rams, with 10 of them in the second quarter, as Thomas Oliver added 11. Nick Vanderpool netted seven, and Parker Petlock came away with two.


Mason Lister led Athens with 26 points, hitting 11 field goals in the contest.


The Wildcats came out strong, going up 18-14 in the first quarter behind seven from Lister. Morningstar paced Wyalusing with seven points, as well, while Oliver chipped in with five.


An 18-point Wyalusing second quarter saw them take a 2-point lead at the half. The Rams went 10-for-11 from the charity stripe in the frame to go up 32-30.


They added to their lead in the third as Morningstar went off for 12 points, while Vanderpool added five, to put them up 51-47.


In the fourth, though, Miller hit three 3-balls for Athens, while Lister added seven points, for a 23-point quarter. Wyalusing went 7-for-10 from the free throw line in the fourth, but had just three field goals as a team.


Wyalusing (3-15) will travel to Towanda on Thursday.
