MANSFIELD — Troy gave the top ranked team in the league a scare on their home floor on Tuesday, taking a halftime lead on NP-Mansfield during NTL Division-I boys’ basketball action. However, after the Tigers tied it up going into the fourth quarter they pulled way for a 70-60 win.

Both teams shot the ball well, combining for 13 3-pointers, while the Trojans saw six players score between seven and 15 points for the game.

Colin Loveland led the way with 15 points to go with two steals, while JB Burbage had 10 points, five assists, and three steals.

Evan Woodward had nine points, four rebounds, four assists, and two steals, as Lance Heasley added nine points and five boards.

Lincoln Chimics finished with nine points and two steals, Justice Chimics added seven points to go with five assists, and three steals, and Jackson Taylor finished with one point, three assists, and three steals.

Karson Dominick led four NPM players in double figures, netting 20 points on the night.

Cooper Shaw had 16, Brody Burleigh added 13, and Alex Davis notched 10.

It was Troy jumping out to a 17-12 first quarter lead behind 10 points from Loveland, including two 3-balls.

They cooled off a little in the second, out scoring the Tigers just 12-11, as five different players scored, led by Heasley’s four, to take a 29-23 lead.

The Tigers found their offense in the third, scoring 22 points behind four 3-balls - three of them from Shaw - but Troy answered with a 16 point quarter themselves. Chimics hit two 3-pointer en route to a 7-point frame, while Woodward scored four points to make it 45-all after three.

In the fourth Dominick went off for 10 points while Burleigh added seven as the Tigers went 13-for-15 from the line. They went 17-for-19 from the charity stripe for the game.

Lincoln sparked Troy with seven points in the frame, but they managed just five field goals as they came up short.

Troy (12-6) will travel to Athens on Thursday.
