NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: TOWANDA FALLS TO WELLSBORO (2023-02-01)

TOWANDA — Towanda dug in defensively against Wellsboro on Tuesday, nearly getting the upset, but the Hornets got 21 points from Conner Adams as they pulled away for the 53-41 win during NTL Division-I boys’ basketball action Tuesday.

The game was tied at 23-all at halftime, but Wellsboro held Towanda to just six points in the third. The Knights would get their offense going again in the fourth with a 12-point frame but they couldn’t catch the Hornets.

Teagan Irish led a team effort from the Knights with 11 points, including a 7-for-8 performance from the free throw line. Elias Shrawder added 10 points, while Justin Schoonover netted eight. 

Jack Wheaton scored six, Logan Lambert had four, and Bayley Poll chipped in with two.

After Adams, Hayes Campbell netted 19 points for Wellsboro.

Wellsboro led 12-8 after the first quarter behind six points from Campbell, while Schoonover had six points for Towanda.

The Knights rallied in the second with a 15 points as they had three 3-balls - Wheaton netted two, Shrawder had one - to knot things up.

Then in the third Adams and Campbell had six points each to give Wellsboro a 34-29 lead.

Isiah had six points in the final frame for Towanda, while Shrawder added four, but the Hornets went 7-for-11 from the free throw line as Adams scored seven points to lead them to the win.

Towanda (8-9) will host Wyalusing on Thursday.
