NTL WRESTLING: CANTON TOO MUCH FOR MILTON, ADVANCES TO D4 DUALS QUARTERS (2023-02-01)

CANTON — Canton won eight of 13 matches as they defeated Milton, 42-22, during District IV Duals wrestling action Wednesday.

Lyle Vermilya (114), Cohen Landis (114), Holden Ward (133), Hayden Ward (145), and Riley Parker (189) all had falls for the Warriors, with Hudson Ward (152) scoring a technical fall. Carson Rockwell (127) added a major decision, while Michael Davis (215) notched a decision.

Ty Locke (107) got a forfeit for Milton, as Paul Rohland (285) had a fall. Alex Hoffman (172) notched a major decision, while Chase Lytle (139) and Brady Wolfe (160) each had decisions.

Davis opened the match with a 7-0 win over Milton’s Cale Bastian, but Milton took the next two bouts with Rohland pinning Nelson in 4:48, followed by Locke’s forfeit, putting the Black Panthers up 14-3.

Back to back falls from Vermilya - over Abbey Moser in 1:52 - and Landis  - over Tyler Stokes in 1:46 - saw Canton retake the lead 15-12.

Rockwell then scored his 13-4 major over Tyler Geiswite, followed by Holden getting his fall in 16 seconds against Connor McCaffery to make it a 25-12 lead for Canton.

Lytle edged out Ryland Sakers for a 9-5 win to cut it to 25-15, but a Hayden fall on Quinn Keister in 2:48, followed by Hudson’s technical fall over Alex Parker, 17-2, in four minutes secured the win for Canton as they went up 36-15.

Wolfe then beat Aydin Holcomb 9-2, followed by Hoffman scoring an 11-3 major over Brenen Taylor to make it 36-22.

Parker’s fall in 2:54 over Aiden Keiser ended it as a 42-22 final.

Canton will now face Towanda, 37-32 winners over Wyalusing, in the quarterfinals on Saturday at Milton with an 11 a.m. start.
