Northern Tier Sports Report
WYALUSING — Wyalusing ran into a hot shooting Athens team as they fell 55-36 during NTL Division-I girls’ basketball action Wednesday.

The Wildcats had eight 3-pointers in the game as Addy Wheeler led the way with five deep balls en route to a team leading 17 points.

Layla Botts had 19 points to lead the Rams, including a 9-for-12 performance from the free throw line, while Chloe Bennett scored eight. Elana Jennings had five, with Treanna Nickeson chipping in with four points.

The Wildcats hit five 3-balls in the first quarter to take a 15-10 lead, as Wheeler and Emma Bronson both had two 3-pointers each. Botts led Wyalusing with five points, while Jennings added a 3-pointer.

The offenses slowed in the second quarter with the Rams holding Athens to just eight points, but six were from a pair of 3-pointers out of Wheeler.

Wyalusing, though, couldn’t capitalize as they had just one field goal in the frame en route to six points. Botts led them with four.

Down 23-16 at the half the Rams finally got their offense going with 15 points in the third, behind 10 from Botts, while Bennett had the other five.

However, Athens had 20 points of their own, led by seven from Mya Thompson, as they extended their lead to 43-31.

In the final frame Wyalusing was out scored 12-5 with the Wildcats pulling away.

Wyalusing (5-12) will travel to Towanda on Friday.
