Northern Tier Sports Report
SAYRE — NEB shook off a slow start as they pulled away from Sayre for a 51-19 win during NTL Division-II girls’ basketball action Wednesday.

The Lady ‘Skins hung with NEB early, leading the Panthers 12-11 with five minutes left in the opening half. The Panthers were up 17-14 with 55 seconds left in the half when they used four straight turnovers to score 10 unanswered points to take a 27-17 lead at the break.

NEB then held Sayre to just two points in the second half as they pulled away for the win.

Kayleigh Thoman had 17 points to lead the Panthers, while Kate O’Connor added eight. Alena Beebe and Leah Beebe had seven points apiece, with Emma Neuber scoring six. Lani Thomas, Lillie Maynard, and Becca VanDeMark had two points each.

Liz Shaw led Sayre with seven points.

NEB led 11-8 after the first quarter thanks to five points from Thoman, and four out of O’Connor. Alena went off for eight points in the second quarter to help the Panthers get some breathing room.

In the third NEB out scored Sayre 20-2 behind six from Thoman and Leah, while Neuber netted four.

The Panthers had seven 3-balls in the game.

The win means NEB clinches at least a share of the Division-II title, with NPL beating Canton, as well. The Panthers can clinch a fourth straight outright title on Friday when they host NP-Mansfield.
