NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: JAYNE'S 3-POINTER SENDS WYALUSING PAST WELLSBORO (2021-01-19)

Northern Tier Sports Report
WELLSBORO — Wyalusing’s Hailey Jayne hit a 3-pointer with 3:34 left in the fourth quarter to propel the Rams to a 21-20 win over Wellsboro in NTL Division-II girls’ basketball action Tuesday.

“I don’t think we played our best game, but at the end we really focused on using some clock to our advantage,” explained Wyalusing coach Ricky Lindblad. “Hailey Jayne hit a big three to put us up one at the end and then we were able to hang on for a close win. It wasn’t pretty, but in the end a win is a win. Wellsboro is a good team and is always tough to beat when you travel there. It’s good to know that even when we’re having an off night we can grind it out and find a way to win.”

Jayne led the Rams with eight points while Catherine Brown had six. Callie Bennett finished with four, Madison Putnam netted two and Layla Botts added one.

Bailey Monks led the Hornets with seven points.

The Rams led 7-4 after the first quarter as a Jayne 3-pointer was the difference in the score. Wyalusing added to their lead in the second, going up 13-9 at the half.

The Hornets held Wyalusing to three third quarter points to cut the deficit to 16-15 after three.

In the fourth both teams eked out five points each as Kiyah Boyce led the Hornets with three.

In the end, though, the Rams pulled through to improve to 2-1 on the season.

They hit the road again on Thursday as they travel to NP-Liberty with a 6 p.m. start.
