NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: TAYLOR'S DOUBLE-DOUBLE LEADS TROY PAST CANTON (2021-01-21)

Northern Tier Sports Report
CANTON — A strong defensive effort by Troy held Canton to just five points in the first half, and propelled the Lady Trojans to a 37-16 win here Thursday night in NTL girls basketball action.

Canton’s Molly Ward took the tip-off in for a score, giving the Warriors the first points on the board. It would be the only lead of the night for the Lady Warriors, now 3-2.

A pair of baskets by Troy’s Sidney Taylor, along with one each by Hannah Zimmerman and Rachel Kingsley, provided the Lady Trojans with an 8-3 lead after the first quarter.

Zimmerman started the second quarter off with a personal 6-0 run, and Taylor chipped in with five points of her own.  Troy’s swarming defense allowed a lone Canton score in the quarter: a 3-pointer by Sammie Brackman, and the Lady Trojans entered the break up 23-5.

With the advantage, Troy used the third quarter to take large chunks of time off of the clock.  A bucket each by Taylor and Zimmerman would be plenty of offense, as Canton was only able to put seven more points on the board in the stanza.

Entering the final eight minutes up 27-12, the Trojans continued to use plenty of clock on their possessions. Kingsley scored seven points in the quarter, sealing Troy’s 37-16 win.

Taylor finished with 14 points and 11 steals for a double-double. Zimmerman added 10 points and six boards in the win, to go along with Kingsley’s nine and four by Olivia Call. Call also grabbed nine rebounds as Kingsley snatched four.

For the Warriors, Molly Ward had eight points, while Brackman had five and Aislyn Williams added three points.

Troy, now 2-3 on the season, will host Athens on Saturday.

Canton will travel to Wellsboro on Monday.
