NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: ATHENS' BIG SECOND HALF LIFTS THEM PAST TROY (2021-01-23)

Northern Tier Sports Report
TROY — Troy couldn’t keep up with Athens’ second half surge in their NTL Division-I girls’ basketball loss 49-22 Saturday.

Sydney Taylor had 11 points and six boards for the Trojans while Hannah Zimmerman added seven points, going 7-for-8 from the free throw line.

Rachel Kingsley chipped in with four points and six rebounds.

Athens jumped out to a 9-4 first quarter lead behind four points from Kayleigh Miller. Troy did better in the second quarter, netting seven points, including a 5-for-8 performance from the free throw line, to keep it a 18-11 deficit at the half.

Then in the third quarter Athens scored 12 points, led by Cadence Macik’s eight. A 21 point fourth quarter by the Wildcats put the game out of reach.

Macik and Miller had 19 points a piece as Megan Collins scored five. Emma Bronson, Karlee Bartlow and Braelynn Wood each had two points.

Troy travels to NEB next Thursday with a 6 p.m. start.
