NTL GIRLS' SOCCER: WYALUSING FALLS TO ATHENS IN OT THRILLER (2024-09-25)

ATHENS — For the second time in as many weeks Wyalusing girls’ soccer took Athens to overtime, and for the second time in as many weeks they lost on a Golden Goal, falling to the Wildcats 3-2 on Tuesday.

Chloe Bennett had a goal and an assist, with Addy Bly getting the other goal.


DeLanie Patton had two of Athens’ goals while Olivia Thompson had the other. Addy Wheeler and Brinley Nichols each had an assist.


The Rams led 1-0 at the half 2-0 early in the second, but Athens struck back with goals at the 16:10 mark, and the 4:33 mark of the second half to send the match into overtime.


In the extra period Wheeler found Patton for the game winner.


Athens had a 14-3 edge in shots, and 9-2 advantage in corner kicks. Sophia Alvarez made 11 saves in net for the Rams.


Wyalusing will travel to Williamson on Thursday.
