NTL FOOTBALL: TROY TRAVELS TO WYALUSING FRIDAY (2024-09-26)
BY CHRIS MANNINGNorthern Tier Sports ReportTroy (5-0) put their undefeated record on the line as they travel to Wyalusing (3-2) to take on a Rams squad that’s coming off a 2-straight losses for a Friday night kick-off.
“We are excited for the Rams,” said Troy coach Jim Smith. “They bring on a whole new challenge for us. They have some really big players and use them well in their ground and pound system. Coach Rogers has done a nice job making them competitive quickly. They believe in what they are doing and are a play or two away from being 5-0 right now. We certainly cannot take them lightly. We have to take away what they do well otherwise the clock can become an issue. We have to be good tacklers this week.”
Wyalusing out gained South Williamsport last week but were hampered by penalties that kept them from winning the game.
Troy rolled past Towanda, scoring 28 second quarter points as their offense has been humming as of late.
“It’s important to continue mixing things up on offense,” Smith remarked. “We are very fortunate to have many talented players. Spreading the ball around keeps teams off balance. It’s important not to become too predictable with this group. Making Wyalusing defend the whole field will be key to remaining an explosive offensive unit.”
KEYS TO THE GAME
Troy — Get off the field on third down. The Rams are going to try and shorten the game with long possessions as a way to neutralize Troy’s big play offense. Defensively, Troy has to keep them from pounding out first down after first down.
Wyalusing — Play disciplined defensively. Troy’s going to spread the ball around, and do it with a little bit of misdirection. Wyalusing’s defense will have to make sure they don’t overreact or else somebody will be open.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Eason Teribury, Troy, DE — Teribury has been a force on the line this season, and will play a big part in controlling Wyalusing’s running game.
Nick Johnson, Wyalusing, OL — Johnson’s play on the offensive line, along with his teammate, will determine how well the Rams can move the ball.
