NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: WYALUSING FALLS TO ATHENS ON THE ROAD (2021-02-23)

ATHENS — Athens pulled away to beat Wyalusing 47-27 in NTL girls’ basketball action Tuesday, as the two teams split the season series once again.

Olivia Leichliter netted 12 points to lead the Rams with Catherine Brown scoring five. Madison Putnam netted four, while Layla Botts and Callie Bennett had three points each.


Caydence Macik and Kayleigh Miller both had 17 points to lead Athens as Karlee Bartlow and Hannah Blackman chipped in with four points apiece. Megan Collins scored three, with Rachel Stephens netting two.


Athens held Wyalusing with just one first quarter field goal as they led 9-4 after the first horn. It was Brown keeping the Rams from behind held scoreless as she had four points.


The offense opened up a bit for Wyalusing in the second as they netted nine points, four of them between Putnam and Leichliter. 


Athens found the range, too, with Macik scoring seven of her team’s 14 points to give them a 23-13 lead midway through the game.


In the third it was Miller getting hot, scoring seven points, to help the Wildcats extend the lead to 37-21. Bennett and Botts had three points apiece for the Rams.


Athens put it away in the fourth, out scoring Wyalusing 10-6.


Wyalusing will host NP-Mansfield Wednesday.
