NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: DESPITE BARRETT'S 27 TROY COMES UP SHORT AGAINST WELLSBORO (2021-02-25)

Northern Tier Sports Report
WELLSBORO — Ty Barrett had 27 points for Troy, but his game tying 3-pointer came up short, and Wellsboro pulled out a 55-52 boys’ basketball win in NTL action Thursday.

The game has no bearing on the NTL - Troy clinched that on Tuesday - but will likely keep Troy as the three seed, and Wellsboro as the four in the District IV, Class AAA standings.

Ethan VanNoy had 10 for the Trojans, with Nick Williams, Jake Deitrick and Morgan Madigan netting three points apiece. Mason Imbt, Zeb Oldroyd and Devin Selleck all had two points.

Liam Manning led Wellsboro with 19 points as Darryn Callahan finished with 12. Conner Adams and Isaac Keane finished with eight points each, Peyton McClure netted six and Hayes Campbell finished with two.

The Hornets raced out to a 15-5 first quarter lead behind five points from Callahan. However, Troy stormed back, netting 27 second quarter points to take a 32-28 lead at the midway break.

After going scoreless in the opening quarter Barrett had 15 points in the second as VanNoy added eight.

The two teams played to an even 13-13 tie in the third as Manning had nine points while Barrett scored eight.

Up 45-41 going into the final frame, the Hornets held Troy to seven points, and Barrett to four, as they scored 14 points themselves. McClure had two 3-pointers to spur their effort.

The Trojans now prepare for the District IV, Class AAA playoffs, with their game either Thursday or Friday of next week. Wellsboro will host Towanda on Saturday, but will also be playing on the same day as the Trojans.
