CANTON — Two nights ago, Canton came up just short against NP-Liberty, losing by a point. A late push by the Warriors in their rematch Thursday was not quite enough to avoid another loss to the Mounties, falling 39-36 Thursday.

Trailing 30-23 going into the final eight minutes, Canton had several opportunities to close the gap even further than they did. The Warrior defense limited NP-Liberty to one field goal in the quarter - a three by Eva Rice - but the Mounties outperformed the Warriors at the line, slightly, making 6-15 free throws to just three Canton makes in 11 tries.

Reagan Kelley led Canton with 12 points, with Aislyn Williams netting 10. Emmie Tymeson finished with six points, while Gracie Mead added four points. Molly Ward had three points and Courteney Weiskopft finished with a point.

Eva Rice led NPL with 19 points as Sidney Landis finished with 10.

Canton held a 6-5 lead after the first quarter, but was outscored 14-6 in the second. That seven-point deficit carried into the fourth, as the teams scored 11 points each after the break.

Free throws would prove to be the difference in the game, as the Mounties made 13-26 to the Warriors four makes in 16 attempts.

The Lady Warriors, now 5-12 on the season, will travel to Athens Friday.
